Elections
Since our last e-newsletter we have had the 2009 General Elections in India. Of the 714 million voters, 59.7% cast their vote with Sikkim registering the highest with 82% of the electorate voting.
We had 1.38 million Electronic Voting Machines ( EVMs) spread over 8,28,804 polling stations.
The election was bigger in size to the combined strength of the European Union and the United States of America.
The results were successfully compiled and declared within 3 days.
The election was free of violence.

Dr Manmohan Singh became the 1st Prime Minister after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after serving a 5 year full term.
We feel this is a major achievement and all Indians need to pat themselves on the back for keeping our Democracy alive and kicking.

Satyam Computers
It was a matter of great shame that one of our global winners fell to an ignominious depth.
However, for once the Government machinery delivered the goods to the investors, shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees and bankers.
A trustworthy Board was quickly created.
The new Board members worked on an honorary basis but put in long hours for saving the company.
They realized over Rs 1200 crores from debtors within a month and worked out cash support from the financial institutions.
A tender of sale was floated, bid for and finalised in record time with the Government giving tacit support to the operations and quick decision making.
Mahindras are the new owners and the company has been saved after going to death’s door.
A Miracle if ever there was one !!!

Exports
After a gap of 12 years we are back on track for Exports.
Fusion’s Electra 6 & 9 and Basicote 6 samples were sent to Dubai for rigorous tests and approved.

The Global downturn has hit Dubai’s economy really hard. There was a massive slowdown.
There is a very slow recovery and we are back to the negotiating table. More on this in our next e-newsletter.

25th Anniversary

The   workers,  staff,  executives and  directors  of  Fusion  along  with  their  families  celebrated the completion of 25 years of the company’s operations.

There was a huge family picnic at Shantiniketan over 3 days.
Awards were given to 4 staff members who have served the company for 25 years.

Mr. D. Aich

Mr. K. Ganguly

Mr. M. Gyanasekaran

Mr. M. Sur

There have been many ups and downs in Fusion but the family feeling among all members is still a high after so many years.
This is the best thing about our organization with a deep belief in the “All for One and One for All ” philosophy.

3 WELDING NEWS

A welding myth exposed

Welders feel that using a higher current than the one rated gives higher production by making the electrode melt faster.
Is this true ?
It may seem so but, in fact it probably will reduce the production rate and at the same time cause inferior weld quality and hamper smooth production.

Every electrode has a certain current range within which it operates satisfactorily. On a light job where overheating must be avoided, current on the lower side should be used. For heavy work the maximum current within the range is to be used.
Use of higher currents cause the following problems:
1. will cause burn throughs in thin sheet work
2. will cause large craters and over dilution with the base metal. This is not desirable as higher carbon or alloy pickup from the base metal may cause weld cracks.
3. the ‘red hotness’ may lead to loss of valuable alloying ingredients from the weld metal due to vapourisation. This will in all probability reduce the strength properties of the weld metal.
4. will cause the slag to be ingrained and stick to the weld metal and prevent easy removal causing loss of production.
5. the “red hotness” will cause large stub ends loss.
Weld only at the current rated by the electrode manufacturer.
Welding at a higher current will cause weld defects and you will suffer from the myth that it gives higher productivity.

Wishing you the very best of joy and success in life.
Yours sincerely
